189 Manipur villagers return from Myanmar

These villagers fled to Myanmar following clashes between Army and Manipur People's Army wing of United National Liberation Front.

Some 189 villagers from Manipur's Chandel district, who fled to Myanmar following clashes between army and Manipur People's Army armed wing of United National Liberation Front, have returned, official sources said.

Sources said these villagers from old Somtal and nearby villages in Chandel district who fled to Myanmar following clashes between the two were now being given shelter at some relief camps at Moreh border town in Chandel district.

Chandel district authorities were providing relief anda food materials and the villagers would be sent back to their homes after the encounters between security forces and MPA insurgents subsided, sources said.

Reports from the district said normalcy was returning to the district and villagers were likely to be sent back in the next few days.
