A 21-year-old college student was allegedly abducted by a group of men travelling in a car in Greater Noida on Saturday morning.
According to the police, the incident took place when the woman, a second year BA student of Chaudhary Charan Singh University, was going to Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad for a coaching class on her scooty.
The victim, a resident of Durai village in Greater Noida, has been identified as Situ.
Meanwhile, sources in the Greater Noida police said the girl reached Ghaziabad women’s police station late in the evening. She would be brought to Greater Noida tonight.
“Situ, who goes to Kavi Nagar everyday for coaching classes, left home at around 10.30 am on Saturday. When she reached near Chaproli in Girdhar village, unidentified assailants blocked her way and took her away in their car,” said Brijesh Kumar Singh, superintendent of police (rural).
The incident happened barely two kilometres away from her residence. Locals immediately informed the police about the incident. The news about abduction triggered large-scale protests with locals pelting stones and blocking GT Road for hours together.
Taking no chance, a heavy police force was sent to the spot to control the situation. Senior police officers, including newly appointed senior superintendent of police Preetinder Singh, reached the spot to pacify the mob.
The protesters called off their agitation after senior police officers assured them that police will find the girl soon.
The police have recovered the victim’s scooty from the spot.
“We have launched a search operation. Police are trying to trace kidnappers’ location. They will be arrested soon. An FIR under Section 364 of IPC has been registered at the Badalpur police station,” said Singh, SSP of Gautam Budh Nagar district.
According to the police, the girl was not carrying a mobile phone when the incident took place. The police are yet to establish the motive behind her kidnapping.
