Although the police did not confirm the reason that drove the youth to take the extreme step, they suspected failed love affair could be the trigger.

Saumitra Kumar, the deceased, was the son of a senior medical officer at Shahbad, Kurukshetra. He hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his room.

“We are investigating the matter but initial inputs suggest he committed suicide over a failed relationship,” said a police officer.

His body was spotted on Wednesday morning by his housemates. After completing his B.Tech about six months ago, he had come to Gurgaon for work. On Tuesday night, he had his dinner with his friends at the apartment. Later, all went to their rooms. When he did not open the door in the morning, friends grew suspicious and opened the room.

Additional deputy commissioner of police Abhay Singh said, “His family members have been informed about the incident. His friends have told us that he used to talk to one girl for long hours in the night. He was depressed over the sour relations.”
