220 securitymen punished for rights violation in J&K

About 220 security force personnel were found guilty and punished for Human Rights violation and custodial killings in the state in last five years, a minister said.

About 220 security force personnel were found guilty and punished for Human Rights violation and custodial killings in the state in last five years, a minister said.

"About 220 security force personnel and policemen have been awarded punishment in HRV and custodial killing cases during last five years," Minister for Planning and Development Muzaffar Hussain Baig said in a written reply during zero hour in the assembly.

Of these 220 security men, 81 are security force personnel, 50 policemen and 89 army personnel, he said.

He said that coalition government has taken a number of steps to improve the working of state police and security forces so that there is no human rights violation.

Simultaneously, follow up action is also being taken on the recommendations of the state human rights commission and reviewed by the committee headed by the chief minister.
