Six persons, including standing committee member of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) were arrested from New Road, the heart of the city, as they chanted anti-King slogans waving party flags defying the ban on protest shows.

They chanted slogans like 'Down with Absolute monarchy,' 'Restore democratic rights,' 'lift emergency rule'.

A huge contingent of security personnel were deployed in the major part of the city to prevent any demonstrations.

Eleven political activists were arrested from Dang district and seven arrested from Banke district while they took out demonstrations opposing the February 1 Royal takeover.

Anti-King demonstrations were also held in other parts of the country.
