The strong winds uprooted dozens of trees and several electricity poles including the one supplying power to SRN Hospital on Friday afternoon. This led to sudden power and water crises at the SRN Hospital.

In the night, the hospital and the general wards remained plunged into darkness because the generator service was provided to only emergency ward. The staff quarters on the hospital campus also faced the similar situation.

The long hours of powercut seriously affected the water supply in hospital. Some major surgeries were postponed due to water crisis. In the morning, half-an-hour supply was made through the hospital’s overhead tank. However, till afternoon the patients and their attendants forced to fetch water from outside the hospital. The staff residing on the hospital campus also had to fetch water from hand pump.

The hospital administration made complaints to the power department to restore the supply for normal functioning of emergency and other services. But by late afternoon only uprooted trees were removed by the department. “It seems that today also we will have to manage without power and water supply. From morning to afternoon the department was only able to remove uprooted tree from the electricity pole,” said staff nurse Safia Khatun.
