THE NUMBER of police personnel guarding one individual politician enjoying Z category security may be more than the total strength of the police force of a police station supposed to protect lives and property of thousands of people.

So, Minister for Civil Supply Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, who is also facing charges under POTA, has a fool-proof security around him. The Government had deployed one sub-inspector, five head constables and 22 constables for his security. In other words, 28 policemen with modern weapons are at his disposal.

The same is true for senior Congress leader and leader of opposition Pramod Tiwari. He had 33 policemen (11 head constables and 22 constables) guarding him round the clock. Even the criminal-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari is being protected by eight police personnel.

These and many other facts were revealed by the State Home Department in response to an information sought by former director general of police under the Right to Information Act.

Singh who is also the president of Janhitaya, a social organisation, had raised many questions regarding Mukhtar Ansari, Pramod Tiwari and Raja Bhaiyya.

Surprisingly, it took the Home Department more than five months to part with the information. He had filed the application under the RTI on October 25 and the replies to his questions were given only on March 19.
