The Malad police on Wednesday arrested three men from Andheri for the robbery at a Malad residence on Saturday night.

The three men had posed as deliverymen from a nearby chemist shop, threatened a homemaker at gunpoint and stolen jewellery and cash worth over Rs 27 lakh.

“We started having suspicions on Jaspal Singh alias Jassi, who used to work as a driver for Sophia Bijla, the daughter in law of the complainants,” said DCP Makrand Ranade.

“We took him in for questioning and he confessed he had given information about the valuables in the house to three of his friends and they had planned to rob the house.”

Acting on the information provided by Jassi, the police started investigating the identities and whereabouts of the three men and arrested Sompal Valmiki (30), Jogidar Badlan (25) and Amresh Jha (25).

Police Inspector Deepak Phatangare said: “We got information that the trio would be found near Andheri, we laid a trap and arrested them on Wednesday morning. We also recovered Rs 26.61 lakh from them.”

Added Sophia: “Jassi had been working as a driver for me for four year. Even after our marriage a few months back, I insisted that Jassi still work for me, as I trusted him a lot. He had befriended everyone in the family by his charming nature.”

Sophia further said valuables were in the house as a pooja was to be performed on Sunday.

Knowing this, Jassi contacted his nephew, Sompal, who worked as a sweeper at Laxmi Industrial estate at Andheri and they both planned to rope in more men and rob the household.
