Three persons were killed and two others injured in a road accident on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, around 1 am on Monday.
The incident took place near Jhatta Badoli area under the Greater Noida Police station, when a speeding Maruti Esteem car rammed the road divider.
All three deceased and the couple of injured persons were MBA graduates and were studying at a college in Pune.
“One of the deceased was identified as Raj Kumar (25), a resident of Ghazipur and a vegetable trader. The other two deceased have been identified as Anuj Chauhan, a resident of Alam Nagar in Ghaziabad and Rohan Tyagi (24), a resident of Meerut and a marketing associate with a private firm,” said Mrityunjay Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Greater Noida Police Station.
“One of the injured has been identified as Kuldeep Kumar (24) from Ghaziabad. He was admitted at Sharda Hospital. The other person hurt in the incident is Praveen Kumar (24), a resident of Saharanpur and an MBA student at a Pune institute,” said Singh.
“The youth had gone to Sector-D to attend a marriage function on Sunday night and were returning to Delhi around 1 am, when the mishap took place,” Singh added.
“Investigations revealed that there was a tyre burst, after which the driver lost control of his car and crashed into a road divider. Also, they all appeared to be drunk,” said Singh.
The mangled remains of the car, strewn along the Expressway, caught the attention of drivers passing the stretch.
“The Expressway has become a death trap. People drive at more than 100 kms an hour,” said Namita Singh, who saw the damaged car.
