40 insurgents surrender in Tripura

Forty insurgents of two insurgent outfits surrender to security forces in Agartala, says the police.

Altogether 40 insurgents of two insurgent outfits surrendered to security forces, police said in Agartala on Friday.

Thirty five insurgents of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), including four hardcores whose names are listed with the police, have surrendered to the commandant of 14 battalion of Assam Rifles at Kanchanpur in north Tripura district on Thursday.

They deposited only one SLR and hundred rounds of live cartridges, police said.

The insurgents were staying in a base camp at Khagracherri in Chittagong hill of neighbouring Bangladesh with their family members from where they fled before the surrender.

The insurgents family members comprising 20 women and 20 children have taken shelter in the Assam Rifles camp.

Another five insurgents - two from outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and three from NLFT on Thursday surrendered to the commandant of the sixth battalion of paramilitary Tripura state rifles at Teliamura in West Tripura district.

They deposited one AK-66 rifles and 120 live cartridges, the police said.
