As many as 41 vehicles were impounded as traffic police teams spread out on roads such as the MG Road, Golf Course Road and Gurgaon Expressway.

"Special teams of traffic police and east district SHOs were formed and checking done at 24 points," said Alok Mittal, joint commissioner, Gurgaon.

"We have also decided to focus on enforcing lane discipline, especially on heavy vehicles during the night to prevent accidents."

Driving drunk is a serious problem facing the city, which has 618 places where liquor can be sold or served, or both.

If a driver is challaned three times, police recommend cancellation of the licence.

The Gurgaon Police have even suggested pubs to provide cab facility to customers. So far, only two or three places are providing the drop.
