WITHIN 48 hours, 59 liquor shops in 100 metres of school vicinity will be closed down following the High Court order. The court directed the Excise Department on April 6 to close down these shops. The IMFL shops that face the closure are situated at Hazratganj crossing, Lalkuan, Indira Nagar (Poly technique), Takrohi Bazaar, Bagiya Number 3, Durgaganj, Gosaiganj, and Nogoha. The beer shops that are facing closure are; Hazratganj stadium, Sadar Purana quila, Latouche road, Lalbagh number 3, Munshi Puliya, Gomti nagar, Bijnor, Bagiya Number 3, and Gosaiganj.

Similarly, the model shops falling in the category are; Munshi Puliya, and Patrakaar Puram, while the list of country made liquor shops that face closure are; Latouche road, Lalkuan, Hussainganj crossing, Chitwapur, Sub shop Iradat Nagar, Roop Pur Khadram Ram Lila Maidan, Madiyaon colony, Kharka colony, Sardari Khera, Kailashpuri, Latouche road number 2, Victoria ganj, Gomti nagar number 2, Ghazipur, sub shop Bramhapuri, Indira Nagar Poly technique crossing, Anaura Kala, Takruhi bazaar, sub shop Parag dairy LDA colony Kanpur road, Purani Chungi, Bagiya number 3, Hindu khera Amausi, Gaurigaon, Kanausi, sub shop Shyam nagar, sub shop Devi Khera, Amaniganj, Basarighat, sub shop Baniya Khera, Kakori Quilla Maidan, Kakori Katra Bazaar, Bathuiyya, Tedhemau, Mona road, sub shop Samaisi, Bhagwanpur, Uttretiya Bazaar, Latif Nagar, Mawai Padyana, and sub shop Nagar Nagar.
These are the shops that have been falling within 100 metres from a school. The next hearing on the shops in proximity to religious places, according to District Excise Officer M SD Yadav has been slated for April 22. Yadav said the court order for vacating the shop is within 72 hours, but the district excise officer has ordered that the shops should be sealed within 24 hours of the procurement of the court orders.
The State Excise received court orders on Monday at about 8 pm. Yadav said the respective police stations had been assigned the task and before sealing the shops, they would take the stock.
The liquor, beer, and country liquor and model shops in this category are over 200. However, the hearing for the shops located in proximity to hospital and residential would follow after the action was taken.
It may be mentioned that there are total 503 liquor shops (country liquor, Indian Made Foreign Liquor and beer shops), and 21 model shops in the district. The estimated revenue loss owing to the closure of 59 shops is between Rs 25 crore and Rs 30 crore. The HC decision has come at a time when the State Government had given the Excise Department a target to increase 10 per cent of shops in the current financial year.
