A new record is likely to be set this year considering the number of students booked for copying so far. According to the official records as many as 5204 examinees have been caught indulging in use of unfair means in ten papers of High School and Intermediate exams held till March 18, 2006.

While during 2005 exams a total of 3,482 examinees were caught copying in ten papers. A total of 6,150 candidates including 5,026 boys and 1,124 girls were booked for using unfair means in the Board exams in the 2005 examinations.

The Board exams which began on March 4 will continue till April 10. Nearly 27.96 lakh candidates are appearing for the high school examinations whereas 16.42 lakh candidates for the intermediate examinations at 7,814 examination centres in the state.

Although the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr P C in and around the Examination centres , yet helpers of examinees can be seen thronging near the exam centres and sending paper slips, notes and pages of books inside the exam rooms.

The help of examination staff and policemen posted outside or on the campus is also being taken at some of the centres, according to reports.

The big claims made by the State Government for deploying sector magistrates at the Board examination centres and videograph the examination process do not seem effective anywhere in controlling the copying during the examinations in the State. Agra division is on the top of copying chart as per the official figures of students caught using unfair means there. Perturbed over the mass cheating during last year's exams, the State Government had this year asked all concerned departments to get ready for the Board exams.

Incidents of threatening the staff on examination duty have also been reported from several centres. As a result some of the invigilators and centre incharge have urged for change of place of duty.

Unabated copying was reported to have taken place in High School English, Intermediate civics and physics first papers held on Saturday.
