5 killed, 8 injured in train-jeep collision

Five people were killed and eight others critically injured when a jeep, in whixh they were travelling, was hit by a moving train at an unmanned crossing at Dhanger, about 60 km from Sambalpur.

Five people were killed and eight others critically injured when a jeep, in whixh they were travelling, was hit by a moving train at an unmanned crossing at Dhanger, about 60 km from Sambalpur on Sunday, railway officials said.

The jeep carrying 13 persons to a marriage ceremony was hit by Balangir-Puri Inter-City express at the level crossing between Bargarh and Barpali railway stations, Divisional Railway Manager BK Patel said.

While five persons were killed on the spot, the injured were admitted to Bargarh district headquarter hospital where their condition was stated to be critical, a railway official said.

Senior railway and police officials have rushed to the spot.

Fire tenders was pressed into service to clear the debris from the railway track.
