As many as 568 candidates, 391 of them Independents, remain in the fray for the May 10 elections to 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu as 51 candidates withdrew their papers on Tuesday, the last day of withdrawal.

Out of the 11 validly nominated candidates for the by-elections to the Mangalore (SC) assembly constituency, one candidate has withdrawn and 10 are in the fray.
The prominent contestants include union minister and BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan, former union ministers T R Baalu, A Raja (both DMK), Senji N Ramachandran (MDMK), A K Moorthy (PMK), R Prabhu, K V Thangabalu and R Danushkoti Adityan (all Congress).
Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy will be seeking his electoral fortunes from Madurai, while T T V Dinkaran (AIADMK) will be seeking re-election from Periyakulam.
