Barring some minor incidents of skirmishes between Congress, BJP and CPI supporters in Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Nagaon constituencies polling in the state was violence-free.
Congress and BJP activists clashed at Disangmukh area under Lakhimpur constituency, while Congress-CPI supporters clashed at Nazira under Jorhat seat, the sources said.
Voting was stopped for brief period in some booths of Jorhat constituency due to malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines, the sources said.
The weather, which turned sunny and hot after a long spell of rains, forced many people to stay indoors during the day. But many came out to exercise their franchise later in the day.
In the fray were 57 contestants for the seven LS seats and another seven for the Moriani assembly seat.
The constituencies where polls were held are Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Kaliabor, Nowgong and Autonomous District (ST).
Polls in Silchar Lok Sabha seat, earlier scheduled for Monday was deferred to May 10 due to heavy rains and floods there. Voting in six LS constituencies of the state was held in the first phase on April 20.
