According to sources, after discussion between the secretary of the Medical Council of India and principal Dr OP Singh, the secretary had virtually agreed that the PG classes could be run in six departments including departments of gynaecology, dermatology, paediatrics and anaesthesia.

A meeting between the principal of the college and MCI secretary was held in New Delhi on September 26 where the principal convinced him that most of the departments were fulfilling the norms set by MCI to run PG classes.

Reports said the MCI secretary admitted that PG classes could be allowed in six departments.

It is to be note that the MCI team had inspected the college in May this year and canelled PG recognition of six departments. Report on the department of surgery and medicines was yet to be received.

To recall, in September 2002, the MCI had issued a warning to derecognise the degrees of medical college if norms set by the MCI were not followed.

The State government had earmarked Rs 60 crore to develop the infrastructure in the medical college.

Earlier, the MCI had slashed the postgraduate seats of the medical college in the orthopaedic, surgery, pathology and medicine departments.

With this directive, future of nearly half-a-dozen PG seats in various departments was in a limbo.
