60 held for attempting to burn SC order copies

The workers were arrested for trying to destroy Supreme Court order copies of 50 pc reservation for SC/STs.

Sixty workers belonging to the Adi Tamilar Peravai, a Dalit organisation, were arrested on Monday, when they attempted to burn copies of the Supreme Court order, issued in connection with 50 per cent reservation to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes, in the city.

As the workers, led by the women's wing State president of the Peravai, gathered near the Red Cross building to burn the order copies, they were arrested.

A large number of police personnel had been deployed at the spot.
