650 file papers on last day

ON MONDAY, the last day of the filing of nominations for local bodies? poll, nearly 650 aspiring corporators filed papers. In contrast to previous days, candidates came to the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) in processions along with their supporters.

ON MONDAY, the last day of the filing of nominations for local bodies’ poll, nearly 650 aspiring corporators filed papers.

In contrast to previous days, candidates came to the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) in processions along with their supporters.

The process had begun on October 5 and nine nominations were filed on the first day. On the second day, 44 candidates filed their nominations, while on the third day the figure was 144. Sunday was an off day.

Two eunuchs, Kajal Kiran and Babli, also filed nominations to contest for corporators’ post. Kajal Kiran was accompanied by other eunuchs and filed the nomination from ward number 48 Pashupati Nagar as an Independent candidate.

Babli will contest from ward number 39 Awas Vikas, Hanspuram as a Kranti Dal candidate.

On the last day, women in large numbers turned up to file their nominations. Several women candidates filed their nominations as independent candidates.
Murder accused in the race.

RAJJAN LALA, accused of murdering Meraj in the recent communal violence at Ram Narain Bazar, also filed his nomination papers for the corporators’ seat. Lal filed his papers from ward number 100 Patkhapur.

Lal, who was handcuffed, came to the Kanpur Minicipal Corporation in police custody to file his papers.

“The Samajwadi Party has falsely implicated in the murder of Meraj. At time of violence I was not even present at the spot,” Lal said. Lal confided that he was contesting the poll to “teach SP leaders a lesson”.

18 in fray for mayor’s post

ELEVEN CANDIDATES have filed their nomination papers for the post of mayor on Monday. With this, the total number of candidates for the said post rose to 18. The candidates are: Badri Narayan Tewari (Congress), Neeraj Chaturvedi (SP), Ravindra Patni (BJP), Salim Ahmad (BSP supported), Randhir Singh (Independent), Arif Afzal (Independent), Vimal Singh Chandel (Rashtrawadi Samaj Party), Gaya Prasad Sharma (Independent), Jagmohan Singh (Independent), Mohammed Abrar (LJP), Ram Lakhan (Independent), Shakir Ali Usmani (RJD), Chandrashekhar (Independent), Suresh Gupta (RLD), Shamim Ahmad (Independent), Prem Narayan Gupta (Independent), Manoj Gupta (Shiv Sena) and Bhola Nath Bharti(Independent).
