7-year jail for kidney Gurgaon racket masterminds

Masterminds of the Gurgaon kidney stealing racket Amit Kumar and Upender Dublesh were sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60 lakh each by a special CBI court on Friday.

The court also sentenced Manoj Kumar, Mohammed Shahid and Gyasudeen to four years of simple imprisonment and six months of rigorous imprisonment.

The convicted would lure youth from small towns with the promise of jobs. Once they had fallen into the trap they would remove their kidneys, which they then sold for hefty amounts to patients from foreign countries.

“The convicts are all associated with medicine. Each and every human being reposes faith in the medical fraternity and the convicts have shaken that faith,” said CBI special judge Najar Singh.

The court also ordered that a sum of Rs 10 lakh each be paid as compensation to the three victims whose statements in the court had helped the case.
