80 per cent votes polled in Tripura

About 80 per cent votes were cast for the single phase elections to two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura, election office sources said in Agartala.

The electoral fate of six-time MP Bajuban Reang of CPI-M from Tripura East and party colleague Khagen Das from Tripura West were sealed in EVMs.

Altogether, 19 candidates, including one woman, were in the contest for the two seats, polling for which was held peacefully. The electorate number 20,82,205.

Two helicopters were sent by the Defence Ministry for aerial surveillance, while 80 companies of Central paramilitary forces were deployed for the elections, Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeeb Ranjan said.

DIG (Police control), Nepal Das said not a single untoward incident was reported from any part of the state.
