90 more smuggled tortoises recovered in Kanpur

Railway Protection Force personnel today recovered 90 tortoise, which were being smuggled to West Bengal, at a platform at Kanpur Central Railway Station.

The animals, kept in three bags at the platform, were recovered when RPF personnel raided the spot following a tip off, official sources said.

The persons involved in smuggling the tortoise, however, escaped, they said.

The sources said tortoise were being smuggled to West Bengal from Kanpur and nearby districts in a big way and police have recovered about 2,000 of them while they were being smuggled during the last one month.
