Inaugurating the two-day seminar, chief guest and financial advisor to the State Government Surendra Mohan Agarwal said mental disease was big problem in our society today. He said for every 3 lakh patients there was only one psychiatrist.
He said there were wrong notion about the diseases in our society and people believed that it was caused by ghost or some other supernatural power
Speaking on the occasion, principal of GSVM Medical College Dr SK Katiyar said overstressed life was the reason for rise in mental patients and these patients should not be overlooked and they should be provided proper treatment.

Organiser of the programme Dr Ravi Kumar said: “People think that the need of psychiatrist is only for mentally retarded people but this is absolutely a wrong notion. This is the reason why the patients suffering from other mental problems do not wish to consult a psychiatrist.

Addressing the gathering, Dr PK Chaturvedi said about 95 percent of impotent cases was caused by mental illness. “With time and increasing age, people start to believe that they have become physically incapable, but the truth is that there is no relation between age and sex,” he said.

He also made it clear that there was no difference between a youth and old while making sexual relationships. In fact, the only problems arising in the old age was due to the weakening of muscles. Dr RK Mahendroo also seconded Chaturvedi.

Dr Sarvesh Kumar said that before 1950, there used to be no medicine for mental illness in the country. But, now these medicines were widely used by the general physician. That was why a fewer patients visit the psychiatrist these days.

The conference was headed by Dr R K Mahendroo.
