So children if they are learning to be brave and adventurous with sophisticated air rifles or mountaineering at the camp, then the same camp is engaging those children to develop some softer sides like clay modeling, cooking, personality grooming to their personalities too. And off course some other quality of life enhancing elements—like yoga and spirituality—too form the part of the camp..
The city has not seen such a mix of activities and concept in any of the summer camps ever held anywhere in the city.

And the camp that is already in progress is getting tremendous enthusiastic response. The camp has engaged children between age six to age 16 of army personnel for two weeks and the camp began on June 5 and will go on till June 22.

The camp has three distinct areas of activities in three different segments. In the morning there is ‘fitness and fun’ programme for children from 6 am to 7 am at the serene grounds of 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre(11GRRC). Then it’s time for picking up some music, dance, painting, art & craft, theatre and public speaking in addition to personality grooming, clay pottery and computer classes. This segment is being conducted by the volunteers of AWWA.

Then after these two segments is the ‘outdoor adventure activities’ which is conducted in the evening between 5 pm to 7 pm in which the children are taught para-sailing at Cantt’s helipad groud, 10 meter air rifle shooting and rock climbing at 11 GRRC.

For the rock climbing the children are learning to negotiate a vertical 30 meter wall that is in the form of an artificial rock. Rock climbing activities is conducted under the expert coaching by armymen keeping in mind the safety concerns. But this is not all. For adventure the children are put on simulator for flying a microlight aircraft. In ‘discover yourself’ module the children also learn yoga. The camp will conclude with a gala celebrations at Surya Auditorium on June 22 in which these children will present a number of variety programmes including songs, skits, dance and drama.

“The camp aims at developing a wholesome and well balanced personality,” said Mrs Kiran Nandrajog, President of AWWA, Central Command. “All in all the ‘fun and fitness’ module lays emphasis on the fact that only a healthy body breeds a healthy mind.

The ‘discover yourself’ module is aimed at helping the children in discovering their hidden abilities and latent talents whilst the ‘adventure sports’ module is aimed at instilling in the children a love for adventure and in building confidence by overcoming fear factor,” she said.
