But a young cosmetic and plastic surgeon of the city gave him back the reasons to lead a normal life by conducting one of the most complicated surgery to replant his foot.

Mohd Tabarak was working on the construction site of Hindustan Construction Company at Jehanabad near Lalgopalganj on May 19, when the tragedy struck him. A squall suddenly hit the area and before Mohd Tabarak could find any shelter a sharp-edged tin vertically fell on his right foot leading to a near amputation.

Bleeding profusely and his foot attached only with a skin tag of sole he was rushed to a multi speciality Jagrati hospital in the city. The doctors' team led by consultant cosmetic and plastic surgeon Dr KS Jaiswal decided to replant his foot. The marathon surgery which lasted for ten hours included various stages like repairing the bifurcated main vessel and implanting wires to fix bone.

"The decision to conduct surgery was taken at once and later Mohd Tabarak was brought to the hospital.

His foot was nearly amputated with bone, muscles, blood vessels, main nerves and tissues cut off from the foot. After the 10-hour micro surgery we managed to restore the continuity of foot by joining the blood vessels, nerves, muscles and bone. The surgery was successful and he could now move his foot and even feel the sensation. He would be able to walk and resume normal functioning in the next three to four weeks," said Dr KS Jaiswal.

Dr Jaiswal who is M Ch in plastic surgery, said the cost of surgery was high but it would be borne by the company. "However we are also working to bring down the cost so that the number of disability due to accidents comes down," he added.

Elated after the surgery Mohd Tabarak said it was like the gift of another life to him.

"After the accident I felt that my life has become totally shattered with only concern that how I would earn my livelihood. But now I could start afresh," he said.
