Abandoned kid?s destiny takes a U turn!

Nothing was in his favour. He was premature, unwanted and left near the railway tracks to meet an undignified end. But things have changed now as he has got a new lease of life coupled with the affection of his 'new' parents who might love him more. It is the case of a premature male child who was found near the railway tracks of Prayag Station near IERT a few days ago.

But things have changed now as he has got a new lease of life coupled with the affection of his 'new' parents who might love him more.

It is the case of a premature male child who was found near the railway tracks of Prayag Station near IERT a few days ago.

Abandoned and neglected, the child was found by a tea stall owner of the area. However, now the infant is under the safe care of his foster parents and this miracle happened due to the efforts of the volunteers of Childline.

"On the information about the child, we took it under our care. He was premature and needed immediate medical treatment. We took the child to the Children's hospital from where after a few days' treatment it was handed over to CWC (Child Welfare Committee). Now after all the legal proceedings undertaken by CWC, the child is under the care of the foster parents", said SB Pandey, coordinator Childline. But the things were not so easy since the tea stall owner also asked to pay for the money he spent on taking care of the child. "Most of the time we have to meet such situations and at times the police authorities too are non-supportive. Thus it gets still harder for us to take such children under our custody", said Pandey.

"As of now the child is under foster care. We are not an authorised body to handle the cases of adoption and it could be handled only by CWC", said Shagufta, paraprofessional.

To quote a single case is not enough since there are many such cases of child abandonment which keep happening in the city. But there are very few people who are here to make a difference for such children.

The volunteers of Childline have always come forward to handle such cases.

"Since past 8 to 9 months, we came across five such cases out of which three were female children. Thankfully, three children have already been adopted and the rest are still being taken care of at Shishu Sadan", she added.

"Adoption cases are not easy to handle and sometimes there are such people who come up with the wrong intentions and thus those dealing with it have to be careful", said Pandey.
