Adarsh: Chavan now blames principal secy

On the second day of his deposition before the two-member Adarsh panel on Monday, ex-CM Ashok Chavan said that, as the then revenue minister, he had signed the letter of intent (LoI) for land allotment to the housing society on the recommendation of the principal secretary (revenue), DK Shankaran.

On the second day of his deposition before the two-member Adarsh panel on Monday, ex-CM Ashok Chavan said that, as the then revenue minister, he had signed the letter of intent (LoI) for land allotment to the housing society on the recommendation of the principal secretary (revenue), DK Shankaran.

“It is expected that the principal secretary would have scrutinised all the details which have come from various officials, and since it was a mere LoI, that too positively recommended by the principal secretary, I signed in good faith,” Chavan told the panel.

Shankaran was the state revenue secretary in 2002, and chief secretary during 2006-07, when the Adarsh file was cleared. His son owns a flat in the society.

Chavan, who had deflected blame to former CMs Vilasrao Dehmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde, is likely to appear before the panel again.
