Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Tadao Chino is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from January 15 to 16 to inspect the damage caused by the tsunami, the bank said on Saturday.

Chino will travel to Trincomalee and Mutur in the northeast of the island nation to survey the damage and visit displacement camps.

He will also meet with the Sri Lankan president and prime minister, the ADB said in a statement from its headquarters in the Philippine capital.

Chino's trip to Sri Lanka follows his visit to tsunami-affected Aceh, Indonesia, and participation at the Jakarta tsunami aid summit on January 6.

The ADB is allocating up to 50 million dollars from current projects in Sri Lanka to aid tsunami victims and is preparing new emergency assistance totalling between 100 million and 150 million dollars.

Almost 31,000 people in Sri Lanka lost their lives in the December 26 disaster and up to one million were displaced.
