A section of the SP workers reportedly lost their cool and did whatever they could to score over the UDF Mayoral candidate when they came to know about such stories circulating in some areas.

This led to heated exchanges in many areas and attempts to rig the poll. If poll observers were correct, the UDF mayoral candidate did better in Katra Bakhtiyari, Beli, Daraganj, Majidia Islamia, Roshanbagh, Kareilly and Lekhpal training centre polling stations.

However, the Samajwadi Party mayoral candidate had an upper hand in Chakia, Akbarpur and its adjoining areas.

However, on its part, the administration claimed that the election was peaceful and there were no major incidents reported from anywhere. The commissioner, the DIG, the DM and the SSP also took rounds of the district and claimed that everything was normal.

Meanwhile, a section of people had gheraoed the colonelganj police station in protest against no action taken by the police against a BSP candidate who was indulged in unfair practice during the day.

Police, however, managed to persuade them to give up the agitation after some time.
