It may recalled that communal tension had gripped the city after a clash when the Narsingh Yatra was passing through Ghasi Katra and Jafra Bazaar earlier. The district health officer has been directed to provide emergency wards with more beds and medicines.
Meawhile, the Rani Sati Mangal Samiti took out a procession from Khoonipur locality. The processionists passed through various routes, sprinkling gulal. Women, too, participated in the colourful procession. Devotees thronged the Rani Sati temple to perform aarti. Participants rendered ‘bhajans’ and Holi songs during the procession, which culminated at a temple near Gorakhnath crossing. Meanwhile, though stalls were set up in various localities, the sale of colours was yet to gain momentum.
Traders hoped business would pick up from Monday. Holi caps and pichkaris were displayed at various shops.
Head priest of Gorakhnath temple Mahant Avaidyanath appealed to local people to celebrate Holi on March 15. Holika Dahan will begin at 8.30 pm on March 14. Meanwhile, local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal said he had decided not to celebrate the festival of colours this year in the wake of BJP president Rajnath Singh’s call to desist from the celebrations in the wake of the Varanasi bomb blasts. He also said he would not participate in the traditional Holi procession.
He condemned the State Government for failing to avert the blasts despite intelligence reports.
