On Wednesday, responding to an interim application filed by advocate Rahul Mehra, the Delhi High Court observed that the AFI should adhere to the sports ministry's recent model poll guidelines for the April 14-15 elections of the office-bearers.

In case the AFI violates the basic guidelines, the federation shouldn't get annual recognition by the sports ministry, the court further observed. Thus, the federation wouldn't be entitled to necessary financial assistance from the government to hold various national camps and to send teams abroad to train and participate.

The court has fixed the next hearing on April 25. Mehra, in his plea, had alleged that the federation has been violating various provisions of the of the government's sports code.
