The opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today fielded former Assam Home Minister Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, who rejoined the party only yesterday, from the prestigious Guwahati parliamentary seat to take on BJP's star candidate and the state's cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika.

Releasing the second list of AGP candidates for Lok Sabha polls, party leader and Chief Whip Hitendra Nath Goswami said Phukan will fight from the prestigious seat against Hazarika.

The Nagaon parliamentary seat will be contested by Dhruba Kumar Saikia while the contender from Barpeta will be Kumar Deepak Das, he said.

Earlier, the party had announced the first list of eight candidates.

For the Diphu Lok Sabha constituency, Goswami said, talks will be held with the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) while in Silchar the party will not field any candidate.

For the Kokrajhar seat, Goswami said, talks will be held with the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) to field a common candidate.
