Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Thursday that efforts would be made to double agriculture credit in the country over the next three years to boost production.

Presenting the annual General Budget for fiscal year 2004-05 to parliament, Chidambaram said that the government would unveil a special package for rural irrigation and encourage agriculture cooperatives.
The finance minister said his government was committed to extending insurance schemes to farmers to help them offset the impact of any natural calamity.
