The AIADMK, led by their party general secretary Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, protesting against the Speaker's denial of permission to move a special adjournment motion on the Hogenakkal issue.
As the Question Hour started, Jayalalithaa, also the Leader of the Opposition, rose and requested the Speaker to take up the issue.
However, the Speaker, R Avudiayappan, declined permission, saying the House rules did not permit him to do so.
Even as Jayalalithaa persisted with her request, the Speaker initiated the Question Hour, asking Local Administration Minister M K Stalin to give his reply to a starred question.
At this point, all the AIADMK members were on their feet and kept shouting, asking the Speaker to take up the motion, but he declined permission. AIADMK members shouted slogans denouncing the Speaker.
Soon, Jayalalithaa led her party members in staging a walkout.
Speaking to reporters later, the former Chief Minister said she had requested the Speaker for bringing the adjournment motion by citing precedence in Parliament where the Question Hour was postponed for taking up a similar motion.
