Air force rescues 203 snow-trapped civilians

The 130 Helicopter Unit -'The Condors'- of the Indian Air Force, stationed at Jammu, undertook an operation on Wednesday, rescuing stranded people from the otherwise inaccessible villages of Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Braving snow waves, and extreme cold, IAF's MI-17 chopper, with assistance from the local administration, airlifted 203 stranded people in 10 sorties from remote parts of the Kishtwar region, where they had been trapped for the past two days.

The operation was carried out under the captainship of Wing Commander Suresh Tiwari and co-pilot Wing Commander Anup Sharma and Sqn Ldr Shiv. The aircraft took off at 7.30am and continued with the operations in the freezing temperature of -10° Celsius.
