The scheduled October 1 launch of domestic operations of Air India Express, the international low-cost airline of state-owned carrier Air-India, has now been deferred as the airline's aircraft are being diverted for the Haj pilgrimage beginning mid-November, an airline official said on Wednesday.

The service is now expected in January.
"We are re-scheduling Air-India Express' domestic operations as several of its aircraft would be diverted for Haj. Once these aircraft are back we would launch operations in the domestic sectors," the airline official added.
Air India Express primarily operates in the Gulf sectors.
Air India plans to launch non-stop flights between Delhi and New York from February next year.
