Ajit Jogi

Ajit Jogi, a senior Cong leader and spokesperson of Congress was elected as first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh state.

Jogi, a senior Congress leader and spokesperson of the Congress party was elected as the firstChief Minister of the newly formed Chhattisgarh state. A former bureaucrat, he was closely associated with the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh.

Born April 29, 1946, Jogi graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal. He joined the Indian Police Service during the year 1968-1970. Later, hejoined the Indian Administrative Service and continued to serve as a officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre between 1970 and 1986.

Jogi, was elected to Rajya Sabha during the term 1986-1998. He was later elected to Lok Sabha in the year 1998 from Raigarh constituency in Madhya Pradesh. A very articulate person the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, had appointed him as the spokesperson of the Congress between 1998 and 2000.
