Akhilesh to ensure Mayawati monuments used for public purposes
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav today reiterated that the Samajwadi Party-led state government would use the memorials and parks built by the Mayawati government for public purposes.

"We have already set up a milk bar there, and the fisheries department too will come up with something soon. A central government agency was also allotted an office there, but the agency backtracked," Yadav said.
He was talking to mediapersons at his official 5 Kalidas Marg residence in Lucknow, where he unveiled foundation stones for development projects.
"We will ensure that these memorials and parks are used for public purposes."
The chief minister dedicated to public nearly 350 development projects (including bridges, railway over bridges and power substations) with an estimated cost of Rs 3,413 crore.
He said Uttar Pradesh was back on the path of development, adding that his government would be busy laying foundation stones and inaugurating development projects in the coming days.
Yadav said his government was implementing the promises made to the people in the 2012 assembly elections. While the previous state government led by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) under Mayawati had thwarted development, his government would now complete all such projects, he said.
Referring to a bridge in Balrampur that had not been completed for past 22 years, Yadav said the bridge would be completed by 2014.
Yadav also listed some other projects that were started by the SP-led government earlier, but were abandoned during the BSP regime. He said the delay in completion of projects was leading to escalation of costs.
The chief minister said his government had requested the Planning Commission of India to allocate Rs 5,000 crore to complete the pending projects. His government was now also allocating more funds for the completion of development works, said Yadav.
"If the central government continues to cooperate, the work on the Mall Avenue Rail Over Bridge of Lucknow will be completed soon," he said.
Yadav added that work on the Lucknow-Agra expressway was soon going to begin, while work on four-lane roads connecting district headquarters had already started.
