The owner of the house, Uma Dharuman, was away at Jalandhar when the incident took place.

According to the police, Dharuman was putting up alone in Block H at DLF City-1. Before leaving for Jalandhar on Thursday, she had requested her neighbours to keep an eye on her property.

A commotion in Dharuman's house alerted her neighbour AK Singh, who informed security guards and police officials.

"The police reached the spot in no time. Sensing trouble, the robbers tried to escape through an AC window. They were nabbed by the police and neighbours," said Uma.

The accused were identified as Rohit, 24, and Arvind, 22. Both are auto-drivers and belong to Indri village near Sohna. Dharuman claimed she lost cash and valuables - a Sony music system and silver coins - worth R45,000.

The police had first closed the possible escape routes before launching the operation.

The duo has been sent in police remand.

Pointing out there was no adequate security, Dharuman said, "Majority of the residents here are senior citizens and live alone."

Area councillor Rama Rathee visited Dharuman's house and assured help.
