Punjabi-style Chinese restaurants offering ‘authentic Chinese’ are an old joke, so it’s refreshing to come across Ching Wah, a restaurant that actually celebrates its Chinjabi-ness.

The place recently underwent a full scale renovation, adding a new floor and rejigging the menu. Among the dishes we tried, the Ching Wah Special Veg Soup, a mildly-flavoured clear soup chock full of veggies, deserves a mention. For starters, try the spicy Special Stir Fried Vegetables in hot garlic sauce. For non-vegetarians, the interesting Chicken Legs Schezuan-style is highly recommended. In main course, try Vegetables in White Sauce, that’re offset by crunchy, fried cashews.
A great dry accompaniment are Batter Fried Cauliflower cooked in hot garlic sauce. And though we didn’t try it, the Ching Wah Special Prawns are among the chef’s specials. With its spicy fare, warm ambience and friendly service, it’s no wonder that the place is always full.
