Amrita Arora does not believe that an actor’s scope gets limited in a multi-starrer film. Mahesh Manjrekar’s Rakht saw her with stars such as Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty. The forthcoming Fight Club by Vikram Chopra is no exception — Amrita stars with Sohail Khan, Dino Morea, Zayed Khan, Ashmit Patel, Rahul Dev, Riteish Deshmukh and Suniel Shetty.

“It is about time people realised that the concept of a heroine no longer exists. Besides, in a multi-starrer, it is a challenge to perform in the midst of so many actors,” says Amrita.

In Fight Club, the actor plays a singer Shonali, who lets her work do the talking. The singer falls in love with Dino Morea, the owner of a club, who helps her realise her potential and talent. One should look forward to star cameos in the film in which every role, irrespective of the length, is important.

Amrita doesn’t disagree that hers is a glam role. “People would definitely give her (Shonali) a second look, but she is very simple from within. It’s like what you see is not what you get.”

The actor says Fight Club is a commercial film, with a romantic angle and moments of fun. Amrita rocks in two numbers in the film, especially Chhore ki baatein. “The picturisation adds to the success of the song. I also like the title song, which is quite high tech,” she says.

Is Amrita, whose last release came two years ago, being too choosy? Though the actor isn’t complaining, 2006 will be really hectic for her as she has five releases.

Coming up after Fight Club is Mahesh Manjrekar’s Deh. “I go through a transformation in the film from a model to a girl who is married to an over-possessive man,” says Amrita.

Next in line is Ajay Chandok’s Team, where she plays “a regular heroine who has to do some action,” Hansal Mehta’s Raakh, which is “a take on Godfather” and Vikram Bhatt’s Time.

“I like working with friends as there is a comfort level like in Fight Club,” says the actor.

Amrita says her change in image was not a conscious decision. “I think it is a natural process. Things change as you grow,” she says.

Amu, as she is fondly called, says she is now looking forward to the release of Fight Club.
