Amma?s pot of rice is bigger
The flight of freebies has just got wilder in Tamil Nadu.
The flight of freebies has just got wilder in Tamil Nadu. Responding to DMK’s promise of 20 kilos of PDS rice at Rs 2 per kilo every month, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa came up with her counter offer — 10 kilos of free rice every month.

She said all ration card-holders would be eligible for the booty while campaigning at her Andipatty constituency. At present, ration card holders are entitled to 20 kilos of rice at Rs 3.50 per kilo. If the new scheme is implemented and the AIADMK voted back to power, then the remaining 10 kilos could be purchased at Rs 35 every month, which is Rs 5 cheaper than what the DMK has offered. Earlier, Jayalalithaa had ridiculed the DMK’s assurance citing the Rs 1,300-crore subsidy incurred by the state government.
