The girl, a post-graduate student, had alleged in a written complaint to the university's Vice-Chancellor that Shareef Ahmad, a Reader in the Department of Sanskrit, made lewd passes after calling her to his room.

A senior university official said that action was taken against Ahmad following the report of an inquiry conducted by the University Women's Cell.

Sources said the Cell would meet again to recommend further punishment, if deemed necessary.
