Triveni consumed a heavy dose of sedatives.

The college authorities took her to Guntur’s government hospital. She is recovering now.

In her statement to the police, she said five senior girls took her to the terrace recently and made her strip and dance.

She identified them as Shravanti, Sowjanya, Praneetha, Nagma and Vanitha.

The police are yet to book a case of ragging against the accused.

Triveni’s father, Venkateshwar Rao, said, “She had been complaining of ragging since the day she joined the college. But she pleaded with us not to complain, as it would anger her seniors and may affect her studies.”

The principal of the college, Satya Narayana, however, said, “She (Triveni) has fared badly in the semester examination and was depressed. That could have prompted her to attempt suicide.”
