On New Year's Eve, a 27-year-old woman who accepted a lift in a neighbour's car was raped by two men inside the moving vehicle in Narela. While two of the accused have been arrested, the man in whose car the rape took place is absconding.
The woman had gone to the market when her husband’s friend, Vikram, offered to drop her home. “The victim knew Vikram very well,” said a police officer. “So she got into the car without hesitation.”
While Vikram drove, his friends Naresh and Sushil, who were in the back seat, raped the woman for over two hours. The trio then dropped her near her house. The woman told her husband about the incident. But that was not the end of her ordeal.
The police first took her to Raja Harish Chandar Hospital for a test. “They referred her to Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital, saying they had no gynaecologist to attend the case,” said the officer. It was the same story at Ambedkar hospital.
A case was finally registered on Sunday at Narela police station, after a medical examination at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital.
