Another trade union leader faces threat to his life

The stage for yet another murder of trade union leader has been set in Ghurpur. Close on the heels of Amrendra Pandey murder case in which all the accused are yet to be arrested, Ghurpur might be witness to a similar incident again, say none other but cops themselves on condition of anonymity.

Like Amrendra had foreseen his murder following threats to him, Suresh Harijan general secretary of All-India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) has also handed over a written complaint against a constable of the same police station who threatened to get him eliminated. This happened on the day Amrendra was murdered.
Suresh Harijan along with workers had tried to stop illegal operation of a sand machine in Baswar. In retaliation the mafia men fired at them. Having saved themselves some how Suresh along with some workers rushed to the Ghurpur police station but could not reach there due to road blockade put up in protest against the murder of Amrendra Pandey. As a result Suresh managed to reach the police station around midnight. It was at this moment when a constable at the Thana threatened him with dire consequences in case he does not give up the leadership of workers.
Workers allege, some cops of Ghurpur PS are hand in glove with the sand mafia operating in the region and were making good money every day. The modus operandi is simple. Cops at the mining barrier allow the sand laden trucks to pass through without taking the transit permit. By their action they were definitely helping the sand mafia in some ways but at the same time were also causing great loss to the state exchequer, say insiders.
On his part Suresh opposes the illegal operation of sand machines and also illegal practice adopted by the cops posted at the mine barrier.
Like Amrendra, Suresh is also a popular leader of workers who are ready to do any thing on his call. As a result he has become an eyesore for the sand mafia.
Sources said, following complaint made by Suresh the said constable was shifted to Karma outpost under the same police station but being a close confidante of the station officer he has managed to stay put.
Police sources, on condition of strict anonymity, said that Amrendra was murdered with the connivance of some of their colleagues and Suresh might also meet the same fate in case drastic steps are not taken against some cops at the Ghurpur police station.
