Vice-President Hamid Ansari has batted for establishing Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) as a scientific and technical university of excellence.

Felicitating fresh graduates of the university here on Saturday, he said that improving the university's infrastructure would nurture young talent. "The funding of the university by the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is a welcome initiative," he said. "It emulates similar initiatives elsewhere in the country. There could be no higher calling than imparting quality education to our children and making them better prepared to meet the challenges that lie ahead in life."

He said the university, in a decade of its existence, was on the path to establish itself as a premier institution of higher learning.
