Appointment of Kazmi as A-G welcomed

THE LEGAL fraternity of Allahabad High Court celebrated the appointment of SMA Kazmi as the Advocate-General of Uttar Pradesh. Several lawyers congratulated Kazmi for his appointment on the constitutional post. Kazmi is the first lawyer from the minority community to be appointed Advocate General of UP.

Several lawyers congratulated Kazmi for his appointment on the constitutional post. Kazmi is the first lawyer from the minority community to be appointed Advocate General of UP.

Born in 1957, Kazmi joined the Allahabad High Court as legal practitioner in the year 1980.

He was appointed Additional Standing Counsel of Central Government in the High Court in 1992. Thereafter, he was appointed as Additional Standing Counsel of State of Uttar Pradesh in 1994. In 1997, he was appointed Special Counsel of Allahabad High Court.

In February 2004, he was appointed Chief Standing Counsel of State of Uttar Pradesh. In October 2005, he was appointed Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh Government.

Kazmi is well known in the intellectual circle of Allahabad for his literary acumen. He is associated with Progressive Writers’ Association and has successfully organised several literary programmes.

Kazmi is also associated with several lawyers’ organisations like Samvaad, Sapru Law Academy and Lawyers and Litigants Solidarity and has conducted several programmes highlighting burning legal issues.

Last year, Kazmi visited the USA on the invitation of US government to address a seminar on ‘Multi-Culturalism in a Democratic Society’.

Recently, he also visited Bangladesh and took part in a programme there.
