Ardh Kumbh: Dates for ?shahi snans? fixed

SANTS AND people's representatives have urged divisional commissioner Lalit Verma to take immediate steps for appointment of mela officer for the ensuing Ardh Kumbh in order to ensure proper arrangements for the religious congregation. The Ardh Kumbh will be organised in January-February 2007.

The divisional commissioner said that talks were going on with the State administration in this connection and mela officer would soon be appointed. He said in order to ensure proper arrangements for Ardh Kumbh several panels would be constituted. The divisional commissioner was holding a meeting with religious leaders, people's representatives and administrative officers. The meeting also fixed dates for 'Shahi snans' and main bathing festivals. Shahi snans will be organised on January 15, 19 and 23, 2007. Besides, main bathing festivals will be: Paush Purnima (January 3), Makar Sankranti (January 14/15), Mauni Amavasya (January 19), Basant Panchami (January 23) Maghi Purnima (February 2) and Maha Shivratri (February 16).
