Army officer held guilty of molesting NCC cadet

Lt Col SS Madra had allegedly molested a girl cadet in September 2005 during a training camp.

A lieutenant colonel of the Army was on Wednesday held guilty of molesting an NCC girl cadet last year.

The general court martial, presided over by Brig Arjun Menon, sentenced Lt Col SS Madra to five years' loss of service for the purpose of pension and gave him a severe reprimand, Army sources said.

An NCC cadet from the Government College of Girls had alleged that she was molested by Madra during a training camp held at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in September 2005.

Madra had denied the charge and contended that the girl's allegations were aimed at "settling personal scores", the sources said.

Based on the girl's complaint, the NCC had ordered a court of inquiry to ascertain the facts of the case.

Madra was attached to the 37 Infantry Brigade for the purpose of recording of the summary of evidence and assessment of trial, the sources said.
